I was absent this day. I do not remember exactly what I was doing, but I can only imagine I was at home, sick, sleeping. That’s what I usually do when I stay home. There is also a possibility that I was doing leadership things, perhaps setting up for an assembly. In which case, I was in the gym, putting up the big screen and running around with a meter stick, as that is what I am known to do when such days occur.

Digital Nation

I was absent for the watching of Digital Nation in this class, but we have watched it in history twice this year. The video not only amazes me but also infuriates me. Watching it in history has given our teacher, Mr. Joling, to tell us everything he thinks about the video: that kids these days are lazy and that multitasking is going to be the end of productive school work. I get frustrated with this video because I think that they bring up good points. It is true that multitasking is not good when it comes to school work, and that most of the time I spend facebooking should be spent doing homework. But I don’t think that the video is an accurate representation because they don’t take into account the number of people that just don’t really care about it. I think that integrating technology is important, even when Facebook, StumbleUpon, e-mail, etc. are distracting students from their work. When they need to get down to it, they will. They will spend the other time doing what they want to do. If they don’t care about it when they aren’t distracted, they definitely won’t care when they are.

Multimedia Project

I was absent a few times last week and didn’t have much time to work on my project. I watched some of the video tutorials on the Adobe website but I haven’t made any progress on the actual flash video.

Overall, the social significance of my project is that the students at Capital High School will be able to view the Capital News Service video announcement whenever they want. Instead of only being aired at the beginning of second period, they are archived online. They contain important information and humorous videos that the students need and enjoy. The website can be found at: http://www.hulk.osd.wednet.edu/~danielsec/cnsvideos

I showed my completed website to my friend Kari Flaatrud. She is a Capital High School student and enjoys watching the daily announcements, so she was excited to hear that she would be able to watch them online. She liked it but said that I should explore more options for the menu, besides just having a list of links to the different months because it became long and unnecessary.

I also showed the website to my friend Sarah Eckert. She is a student at SPSCC and doesn’t arrive at Capital until fourth period. Previously, she has been sad about missing the videos that students talk about from day to day. At this point, I only had the full episodes on my website. She suggested that I upload the mini videos (“Extras”) because they are enjoyable to watch and – as she said – “they are everyone’s favorite part of the announcements anyway”.

Lastly, I showed my website to my advisor, Mrs. Cope, because I am using it also for my culminating project. She is a teacher at Capital High School and admits to enjoying watching the videos in the morning and would sometimes like to watch them again. She said that it was well organized but agreed with Kari in saying that I should find an alternate way to organize the menu bar.

Current Event Article

1. The article I read was about Japan’s bid to host the 2022 World Cup by using technology. They proposed that they would have 200 high definition cameras, 3D broadcasting monitors, digital match tickets, and GPS so that attendees can navigate their way around the stadium. They are in the running to host the World Cup but there are many other countries as well.

2. The technological part of this article is the technological elements that Japan is integrating into their World Cup.

3. There aren’t really any solutions but if they were able to host the World Cup in 2022, it would be cool.

Learning Flash

I’m going to use the Adobe tutorials to learn flash and create a video! I did this sophomore year but I am going to try to use new techniques and actually finish a video, which I didn’t do before.

1. Watch tutorials and learn some background
2. Plan out a video story board
3. Start to create the video
4. More tutorials
5. Finish the video

(Steps 3-5 are interchangable)
